Two Arrested with Elephant Tusks Worth Sh1.8 Million in Migori

MIGORI: A joint operation by the National Police Service and the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has led to the arrest of two suspects in connection with wildlife trafficking in the Namba area of Suna East Sub-County, Migori County.

The suspects were intercepted on a blue Bajaj motorcycle on August 6, 2025.

A search revealed six elephant tusks concealed in a sack, weighing approximately 18.8 kilograms and valued at an estimated KSh 1.8 million.

Among those arrested was a 35-year-old female passenger found carrying the sack and a 58-year-old male rider. Both were immediately taken into custody and are awaiting arraignment.

Authorities say the arrests underscore ongoing efforts to combat wildlife trafficking and protect endangered species.

“The National Police Service, in collaboration with KWS, remains committed to the fight against wildlife crime and the protection of our national heritage,” a joint statement read.
