Detectives from Likoni Police Station have smashed a suspected mobile phone theft ring in Mombasa, arresting a 37-year-old foreign national and recovering dozens of stolen devices.

The operation, triggered by actionable intelligence, targeted a mobile phone repair and retail shop in the bustling Ferry area of Likoni.

During the raid, officers apprehended the suspect, identified as Prence Ndihokubwayo, a Burundian national.

A thorough search of the premises yielded 74 assorted mobile phones suspected to have been stolen.

Police believe the recovered devices were snatched from unsuspecting members of the public during various street muggings and opportunistic thefts across the coastal city before being brought to the shop for wiping, reselling, or harvesting for spare parts.

The suspect is currently held at Likoni Police Station undergoing processing as detectives finalize charges ahead of his court appearance.
