Minutes after President Ruto announced his first 11 Cabinet Secretaries, Twitter erupted with Kenyan outrage, pushing #TupataneTuesday to the top of the trending list.
Among the president’s initial appointees, six were from the previous cabinet that he himself had suspended. This raised questions about whether the president was making progress or regressing.
The re-nominated individuals were Aden Duale, Davis Chirchir, Kithure Kindiki, Soipan Tuya, Alice Wahome, and Rebecca Miano. The public was quick to voice their dissatisfaction:
“Kenya has over 40 million citizens. Why recycle Kithure Kindiki, Soipan Tuya, Chirchir, Alice Wahome, Rebecca Miano, Aden Duale? That government of national unity is complete BS. President Ruto is taking Kenyans for a joke.”
“Mimi nimeboeka vibaya sana na President William Ruto saa hii. It’s not done until it’s done.”
Embakasi MP Babu Owino also expressed his concerns on Twitter, questioning the safety and security of the nation under the new cabinet.
“In whose hands are we safe? So how!? Seems the rejected cabinet was asked to give their best men to replace them but we REJECT,” read Babu’s tweet.
Okiya Omtata Fun page posted, “The latest news paper.. President William Ruto what can you tell Kenyans about Linturi’s PA, Machogu’s running mate, Chirchir, Duale, Alice Wahome, Kithure Kindiki,Soipan Tuya, Rebecca Miano, honestly you are a tone deaf.Tupatane Tuesday”
With the burden of approving the president’s nominees now resting on Parliament, all eyes are on the legislative body to see how they will handle this contentious situation.
