President William Ruto has called on the media to stop celebrating the destruction caused by faceless, leaderless, and formless groups.
Speaking at a church function in Bomet, the Head of State emphasized that the attention the media has given to the anonymous sponsors of demonstrations has fueled the destruction, urging for responsible reporting.
“I challenge those shadowy and faceless people sponsoring and funding the violence to step forward and provide alternative views on how to take Kenya forward. Let them not remain faceless,” said President Ruto.
He continued, “I request the media to report responsibly. Reporting, celebrating, and encouraging the destruction of property and loss of lives is irresponsible. If the country burns, there will be nothing to report about and nowhere to report from.”
The Head of State further added that as a country with a sound democracy, the government will not allow “our democracy to be replaced by a dictatorship and tyranny of anonymous, faceless, formless, sponsored people who want to use violence and destruction of property and loss of lives to send our country into a state of anarchy.”
