House fire claims couple’s lives in Rare village

Police are investigating the deaths of a couple from Rare village in the Lari area, who allegedly died in a house fire.

Preliminary reports indicate that Peter Kimani Kuria and Miriam Muthoni were burned to death when their house caught fire while they were sleeping.

Neighbors believe the tragedy was caused by an electrical fault, as the area had experienced multiple power outages.

Benjamin Gatambia, a neighbor, described finding Mr. Kimani’s body burnt beyond recognition in what was once their bedroom. Mrs. Muthoni’s body was discovered near the main door, suggesting she tried to escape the inferno.

The bodies were taken to the city mortuary for post-mortem examinations to determine the exact cause of death.

Gitithia location chief Samuel Kahoro confirmed the incident and said investigations are underway. He also mentioned that he would follow up with the Kenya Power and Lighting Company to conduct a thorough audit of the electrical issues.
