Dangers and all you need to know about Monkey Pox (Mpox)

Kenya is currently experiencing a state of panic after the Ministry of Health confirmed a case of Mpox in the country. According to information shared by the media, the Ministry reported that an individual traveling from Uganda to Rwanda through Kenya tested positive for Mpox. This individual was intercepted at the Taita Taveta border point with Tanzania.

Mpox, caused by the monkeypox virus, primarily spreads through close contact from person to person. Kondele News has conducted thorough research and analysis of its signs, symptoms, and possible mitigation strategies.

The symptoms of Mpox include:

  • Rash
  • Fever
  • Sore throat
  • Headache
  • Muscle aches
  • Back pain
  • Low energy
  • Swollen lymph nodes

For some individuals, the first symptom of Mpox is a rash, while others may experience different initial symptoms. The rash begins as a flat sore, which develops into a liquid-filled blister that may be itchy or painful. As the rash heals, the lesions dry up, crust over, and eventually fall off.

The number of skin lesions can vary significantly, with some people having only a few and others having hundreds. These lesions can appear anywhere on the body, including:

  • Palms of the hands and soles of the feet
  • Face, mouth, and throat
  • Groin and genital areas, including the anus
