Didmus Barasa gets backlash online after posting a picture in a military regalia

Kimilili Member of Parliament, Hon. Didmus Barasa, recently found himself at the center of a heated online debate after sharing a throwback photo of himself dressed in a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) uniform.

Barasa posted the photo on his social media, captioning it with a phrase that translates to, “Throwback to AIRFORCE!” as he reminisced about his past.

However, the post quickly stirred controversy, as many were reminded of his alleged involvement in a fatal shooting during the chaotic 2022 general elections.

One X-user known as Jeremy ignited the discussion by commenting, “Kumbe huku ndo ulitoa skills za kuua,” this was referencing the 2022 shooting incident of an aide of his opponent.

The lawmaker responded, “Rusha tu propaganda”.

The conversation escalated when another user, Pompeo, claimed that Barasa had been severely beaten by top military officials during his time in the forces.

Barasa’s quick reply, using the slang word “Jaba,” which implies stories full of lies, only added fuel to the fire.

As the debate continued, questions about Barasa’s military background surfaced. Prominent figure Abuga Makori asked, What rank was this? Where did you train? Need RTS in Lanet or Eldoret? What rank did you hold before you left?”

The lawmaker who has expressed interest in the Bungoma gubernatorial seat has been traversing the county calling on the electorate to support his bid.
