Butual Boys School Principal force a student to crush own phone

Kenyans online have applauded the principal of Butula Boys High School for what they termed as ‘instilling discipline’ among the students.

A viral video that has attracted widespread acclaim shows a student being forced to crush his Android phone in an open area.

In the video, the student, dressed in school uniform, is seen holding a hammer while teachers instruct him to destroy the phone.

“We don’t have time to waste chatting online when we are supposed to be preparing for the national exams. Crush that phone, my friend,” says one voice.

Another voice, likely that of a teacher due to its authoritative tone, further commands, “My friend, crush that phone. We have school rules that must be followed. Crush the phone until it turns into powder.”

Kondele News has established that one of the school’s rules prohibits students from having mobile phones on school.

A senior official from the Ministry of Education told Kondele News that the step taken to crush the phone is welcomed and should serve as a lesson.

“The Ministry of Education cannot interfere with school policies. If the rule is that no learner should have a phone at school, then that should be enforced,” said the official.

He further stated, “This is the third term, and many students, especially candidates, might be tempted to use phones to communicate with others during exams. It is imperative for students to leave their phones at home, and parents must support teachers in enforcing these policies.”
