49-year-old man suffocated to death inside a borehole, Gem

GEM YALA: Residents of Siriwo sub-location in Gem Yala sub-county are filled with grief after a 49-year-old mason, Nicholas Oyoko, died by suffocation inside a borehole in Siriwo village this morning.

Oyoko had been invited to repair a borehole at the home of Saulo Ogol when he met his untimely demise.

According to the Assistant Chief of Siriwo sub-location, Mr. Dedan Ogol, the family had called Nicholas to investigate why the borehole, which had been functioning well for years, had suddenly dried up.

Nicholas entered the borehole with the help of his colleagues but stopped communicating after some time.

This raised suspicion after nearly an hour of silence, prompting his colleagues to raise the alarm, suspecting he had suffocated inside the borehole.

Mr. Ogol informed Kondele News that they have been trying to mobilize the relevant authorities to retrieve the body from the borehole. He has called for calm as the retrieval arrangements are being made.
