Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o has been appointed to steer the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in the absence of its leader, Raila Odinga, as he intensifies his campaign for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson seat.
This comes after speculations pointed at the possibility of Siaya governor James Orengo inheriting the seat from the Orange party leader.
The announcement was made by ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna on Wednesday following a Central Management Committee meeting chaired by Raila.
The meeting focused on internal party matters and pressing national issues.
“These regular meetings allow us to review the current state of affairs as a party founded on values of democracy, multi-party democracy, and the participation of the people,” Sifuna remarked.
He highlighted ODM’s commitment to transparency and assured the public of regular updates on the party’s deliberations and decisions.
“There really is no need for the sort of speculation, innuendo, and propaganda that surround our meetings,” Sifuna added.
This strategic move aims to ensure continued strong leadership within ODM while Raila pursues his aspirations on the African continent.
The Kisumu County boss is getting back to the party leadership nearly ten years after leaving the Secretary General position.
