Police arrest notorious panga wielding suspects in Mombasa

MOMBASA: Police have arrested two suspects believed to be behind last week’s youth motorcycle attack. DCI detectives launched an intelligence-led operation in pursuit of the said gang, resulting in the arrest of two notorious suspects, Mohammed Ibrahim Shaban, 22, and Abdulaziz Ali Ogutu, 19.

A crack team of officers from DCI Coast Regional Headquarters apprehended the suspects this morning in the Utange area. The duo is believed to be responsible for a series of panga attacks in Mombasa, including a violent robbery that resulted in a fatality on July 18, 2024. They are also linked to three separate robberies on September 14, 2024, in Majengo, Makupa, and Tononoka.

After a hot pursuit, officers tracked down and arrested the suspects at their hideout in Utange village. A thorough search of their residence yielded a number of recovered items, including: One panga, Three knives, Two assorted mobile phones, Two backpacks,(one black and one blue), Four caps (orange, green, two black, and one grey), Wireless digital cordless phone (make: Zuku), Two yellow helmets, One yellow Honda reflector, One black marvin, Black power bank (multi charger), Black Dior open shoes, ID of Yusuf Amani Yusuf (No. 36026787).

The suspects are currently in custody for further processing, and the recovered items have been preserved as crucial exhibits.
