Four individuals were presented before a Shanzu Magistrate court in Mombasa County for allegedly abducting and sodomizing a blogger based in the coastal city.
The accused, who appeared before Shanzu court, are Abdul Hassan Athman, who was in possession of a motorcycle, make Haojin, Reg No. KMFV 410G, believed to have been used during the incident; Esther Muthoni; Violet Adera; and Haji Babu Ndau Mohamed, alias JAY, a Boda Boda operator who carried the victim but later escaped.
Mohamed was arrested in Lukenya area of Athi River while on board a Dreamline bus, suspected to be fleeing from investigators.
The four, along with others still being sought, are believed to have been involved in the abduction and subsequent gang rape/sodomy of the blogger on September 12, 2024.
Investigations revealed that on the day of the incident, the victim was accosted by a gang of over ten individuals riding motorcycles while in his house in Bamburi Mwisho.
They forced entry by breaking his door. To avoid alarming neighbors, they deceived the victim by claiming their mission was to take him to the Mombasa County Governor to apologize for a social media post allegedly made by him, insulting the Governor and his family members.
The victim was then abducted and taken to an unknown location, where he was assaulted and gang-raped/sodomized.
During the ordeal, the perpetrators were in constant communication with the planners, receiving guidance and alleged financial support to facilitate their movements.
After committing the heinous acts, the perpetrators placed the victim inside a sack and dumped him in a thicket while he was unconscious.
Later that evening, the victim regained consciousness and was assisted by a good Samaritan to find his way out of the wilderness and locate his home.
His close friends took him to Coast General and Referral Hospital, but he was allegedly denied treatment, forcing them to proceed to Beyond Scope Hospital in Kisauni, where he was admitted.
The suspects were arraigned at Shanzu Law Court no. 4 where they were charged with Conspiracy to commit a felony contrary to section 393 of the Penal Code, Abduction with intent to confine contrary to section 259 of the Penal Code, Gang Rape contrary to section 10 of the Sexual Offences Act number 3 of 2006 and Assault causing actual bodily harm contrary to section 251 of the Penal Code where they pleaded not guilty.
The court will give a ruling on whether they would be released on bond on September 26.
