Shock as lightning strike a form three student to death

ALEGO-USONGA: A tragic incident occurred in Anduro village in Nyandiwa sub-location, Alego-Usonga sub-county, where a 17-year-old Form 3 student lost his life after being struck by lightning.

Emanuel Otieno, a student at Ambira Boys’ High School, had been sent home for school fees, according to Joseph Otieno Aloo, the Assistant Chief of Nyandiwa sub-location.

On Sunday, Emanuel attended a church service with his cousins until about 4 PM. Afterwards, he took his father’s motorbike to drop his relatives off in Siaya town.

The incident happened when Emanuel was just 400 meters away from his cousins. While they managed to escape unharmed, Emanuel was struck by lightning.

His cousins quickly raised the alarm, and he was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival.

The Assistant Chief noted that the situation is puzzling, as it wasn’t raining at the time of the incident.

Emanuel’s body has been moved to a private hospital mortuary for an autopsy.
