MIGORI: Migori Governor, Ochilo Ayacko, today inspected the ongoing construction of the Suna Marindi Market, a landmark project set to transform trade in Migori County.
The market is being developed through a partnership between the African Development Bank (AfDB), Migori County Government, and the National Government.
Located in the heart of Migori Town’s Central Business District, the market is set to become the largest commercial hub in the region by creating new business opportunities.
During his inspection, Dr Ayacko expressed his satisfaction with the progress made on the project, emphasizing its potential to drive economic growth.
“The progress made so far is truly commendable. This market will provide modern, well-equipped spaces for traders, stimulate economic growth, and create numerous job opportunities,” the county boss stated.
The county chief also highlighted that the market project is part of his administration’s broader commitment to supporting local businesses and empowering small-scale traders.
Once completed, the Suna Marindi Market will feature modern stalls, improved sanitation facilities, secure storage areas, and robust security measures.
These upgrades are designed to create a clean, safe, and efficient environment for business operations.
Governor Ayacko pointed out that the market is expected to ease congestion in Migori Town, attract more investors, and improve the overall business climate in the county.
“Our administration is focused on empowering traders by building markets, offering funding for small businesses, and creating environments that foster growth. Projects like this demonstrate what can be achieved through strategic partnerships and strong leadership,” he added.
The Governor reassured local traders that the county government remains committed to investing in initiatives that strengthen the local economy.
He urged residents to support the Suna Marindi Market project, noting that it would not only benefit traders but also have positive ripple effects across Migori’s economy, positioning the county as a regional trade hub.
