Police Officer Arrested After Ballistics Link His Firearm to Violent Robbery in Mtito Andei

A police officer has been arrested in connection with a violent robbery that left a bar attendant seriously injured and thousands of shillings stolen in Mtito Andei.

Detectives from the Serious Crimes Unit, working alongside DCI Ruiru investigators, apprehended Dennis Wafula Wanabisi, an officer stationed at DCI Kibwezi, after forensic evidence linked his firearm to the crime.

On July 22, 2024, a gang of four robbers, dressed in jungle uniforms and armed with a pistol, stormed 021 CLUB at Yikisaya Trading Centre in Kibwezi Sub-County.

They threatened customers and staff, demanding valuables, before shooting a bar attendant in the stomach and escaping with Ksh 50,000.

Moments later, the gang struck again at Seton Night Club in Darajani Shopping Centre, firing shots into the air and robbing patrons of Ksh 25,850 and two mobile phones.

Preliminary investigations led authorities to Officer Wanabisi, whose firearm was seized for ballistic examination.

Tests confirmed that the cartridges recovered from both crime scenes had been fired from his weapon.

Wanabisi has since been arraigned before the Makindu Law Courts, where detectives secured a 14-day custodial order to complete their investigations.
