19 year old Student Shot During Nyamira Unrest

Nyamira: Police opened fire to disperse a group of angry students in Itibo yesterday, injuring 19-year-old Brian Arisa Aranda.

The students, initially marching to the MCA’s office with the intent to incinerate it, were pushed back by officers before charged toward the Itibo Police Patrol Base.

According to a police statement obtained by Kondele News, the students damaged property at the MCA’s office before proceeding to torch the patrol base’s report desk and damage officers’ rental houses.

Police responded by firing warning shots, but one round struck Aranda in the abdomen. He was taken to Ibara Mission Hospital for urgent care.

Infuriated by the shooting, the crowd then set the patrol base ablaze, vandalized officers’ homes, and threatened an officer’s life, according to the report.

Investigations into the incident are underway.
