KILIFI: Paul Mackenzie, the alleged mastermind of the horrific Shakahola massacre, has vehemently denied involvement in this latest development of a new site where people fast to death.
Fears of a resurgent religious radicalization threat have gripped Kilifi County following the discovery of human remains and new arrests in Binzaro village.
Authorities moved swiftly this week, apprehending three suspects and rescuing four individuals – three women and a man – from a secluded compound on Chakama Ranch, just a few kilometers from the notorious Shakahola Forest.
The discovery of two human skulls and a seemingly fresh body at the site has deepened anxieties.
This new incident eerily echoes the 2023 tragedy, where more than 400 members of Mackenzie’s Good News International Ministries were found buried in the nearby Shakahola Forest, believed to have starved themselves to death under his alleged influence.
Mackenzie himself has been in custody since March 2023, facing severe charges including terrorism, manslaughter, and radicalization, highlighting the persistent challenge of such groups in the region.
