Surrender the illegal fire arms before crackdown

Elgeyo Marakwet: Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen today offered banditry suspects and illegal firearm holders a short grace period to surrender, promising education opportunities in return, but also warning of an imminent crackdown.

Speaking at the Elgeyo Marakwet County Commissioner’s office during his “Jukwaa La Usalama” security tour, Murkomen urged, “If you own an illegal firearm, we are giving you an opportunity in the shortest time possible to present it to police officers.”

He committed that the government, working with relevant agencies, would facilitate those who surrender their arms to return to school, particularly to technical institutions.

“Some of these people are of school-going age. Instead of engaging in crime, we will give them scholarships to get skills that they can afford to take care of their lives,” Murkomen stated.

The initiative aims to break the cycle of violence by offering scholarships and practical skills.
