Police in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County, have launched investigations following the fatal stabbing of two men in separate incidents, sparking heightened safety concerns among local residents.
In the first incident at Kiang’ombe Shopping Centre, 38-year-old scrap metal dealer Derrick Muchira was critically stabbed during an altercation.
He was rushed to Kerugoya Referral Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival. Detectives are currently pursuing a known friend of the deceased who has been named as the primary suspect.
In a second, unrelated attack at Gathoge, 32-year-old casual laborer Evan Muriithi sustained severe knife wounds along the Mwea–Embu highway.
Muriithi managed to stagger toward a nearby homestead seeking assistance, but he collapsed and succumbed to his injuries before medical help could arrive.
Both bodies were transferred to the Kerugoya Hospital mortuary, where they await postmortem examinations. Authorities have appealed to members of the public who may have information regarding either incident to step forward and assist police in apprehending the culprits.
