UGENYA: Police in Ugenya, Siaya County, are investigating the murder of a 55-year-old woman whose body was allegedly buried inside her kitchen by her domestic worker.
The victim, identified as Eunice Juma Siaji, was found dead inside her home in Urenga, Ugenya Sub-County, in an incident that has shocked local residents.
According to Ramunde Assistant Chief Judith Ogutu, Siaji had not been seen since last Wednesday night.
Her children, who live away from home, raised the alarm after repeated attempts to reach her by phone went unanswered.
A search began on Thursday and culminated on Monday with the discovery of her body buried beneath the kitchen floor.
The administrator noted that the exact circumstances surrounding the death remain unclear, with ongoing investigations expected to determine the cause of death and identify those responsible.
The victim’s domestic worker, who has not yet been publicly identified, disappeared from the home and remains at large. Police are intensifying efforts to track down and arrest the suspect.
As of Monday, the body remained at the scene as family members and authorities awaited an exhumation order from the Ukwala Law Courts.
Assistant Chief Ogutu confirmed the incident and urged residents to exercise caution when hiring domestic help, advising employers to conduct thorough background checks and vetting to protect their families and property.
