Gachagua Warns Raila of Possible Betrayal by President Ruto

USA: Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has issued a stern warning to ODM leader Raila Odinga, urging him to be cautious in his dealings with President William Ruto, whom he accused of being untrustworthy.

Speaking during his tour of the United States, where he is engaging with members of the Kenyan diaspora, Gachagua claimed that President Ruto is unlikely to honor any promises made to Odinga under their recent political rapprochement.

“I want to tell Raila that he is dealing with a cunning fellow—he will betray you in a big way,” Gachagua told the audience.

The former deputy president further alleged that President Ruto had privately confessed to him that he had no intention of implementing the recommendations of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report, which was part of a bipartisan agreement involving Odinga.

According to Gachagua, the president’s underlying motive is to weaken ODM, one of the most established political parties in the country.

“Ruto’s main agenda is to dismantle the Orange Democratic Movement. He knows it’s a strong party, and he’s working to destroy it from within,” Gachagua said.

Once a close ally of President Ruto and a key figure in the Kenya Kwanza administration, Gachagua dramatically fell out with the head of state last year.

The fallout culminated in his impeachment and removal from office, marking a sharp turn in his political fortunes.

Gachagua’s remarks have added fuel to ongoing political speculation surrounding the evolving relationship between Raila and Ruto, especially as the country inches closer to the 2027 general elections.
