Drug Suspect Flees JKIA, Leaves Behind 41 Kilos of Cannabis in Suitcases

JKIA: A suspected drug trafficker who arrived at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) from Bangkok pulled a daring disappearing act, vanishing moments before customs officers could uncover 41.7 kilograms of cannabis hidden in his luggage.

Wong Hiu Fung, 57, had just landed from Thailand and cleared immigration without incident.

At the baggage hall, he collected his two large suitcases and headed to the customs screening area.

However, as officers began inspecting the suspiciously bulky bags, Wong pretended to take a phone call—and quietly slipped away, abandoning the luggage.

Inside the unattended suitcases, detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit discovered 41 sachets of cannabis sativa, carefully concealed but not enough to fool trained eyes.

The escape didn’t last long. Acting swiftly, investigators used forensic leads to track the suspect to a hotel in Nairobi’s South C area, where he was arrested and escorted back to JKIA Police Station. He is currently in custody and expected to face drug trafficking charges in court.
