Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has challenged the Luo community to break away from traditional political alignments and instead support leaders committed to national unity, development, and inclusive governance.
Addressing electorates in Nyando sub-county, during the funeral of Ruth Ochieng, the mother of Kabonyo Kanyagwal MCA Oiko Pete, Omollo said the time had come for the community to take charge of its future by embracing transformative leadership.
“We must move beyond personalities and start focusing on issues that bring tangible development. Our future cannot rely solely on individual politicians to chart the way forward,” said Omollo.
He urged residents to reject divisive politics and instead rally behind leaders with vision and results to show, warning that some leaders were merely driven by personal ambition, with no concrete plans for uplifting their communities.
“Some of these leaders are only after personal recognition. They offer no concrete plans to transform the lives of the people they represent. It’s time we support individuals with the knowledge and will to bring real change,” he added.
Omollo defended the ongoing political cooperation between President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, framing it as a mature and strategic move that prioritises development over rivalry.
“Politics should not be about endless antagonism. When leaders come together, it should be seen as a pathway to development, not betrayal,” he said.
He praised Raila’s decision to work with President Ruto, saying it could unlock long-overdue development opportunities for Nyanza and other regions historically perceived as opposition strongholds.
Highlighting achievements of the Kenya Kwanza administration, the PS pointed to progress made in key sectors including agriculture, healthcare, digital infrastructure, small business support, and affordable housing.
