Stolen animals recovered by police officers in Samburu County

SAMBURU: A well-coordinated security operation conducted on Tuesday night in Samburu County led to the successful recovery of stolen livestock after a fierce gunfight between security forces and suspected bandits.

The operation, which took place in the Silver area near Ol Kanjau, involved a joint multi-agency team comprising officers from Archers Post Police Station, the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU), Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU), National Police Reservists (NPR), and rangers from Sera and Kalama Conservancies.

According to authorities, the team launched a pursuit after receiving intelligence on the movement of the suspected bandits. Upon making contact with the armed suspects, a heavy exchange of gunfire ensued.

The suspects were ultimately overpowered and fled the scene, abandoning the stolen animals.

All livestock were recovered unharmed and have since been returned to their rightful owner.

The National Police Service lauded the bravery and coordination demonstrated by the officers involved, saying the operation reflects the government’s firm commitment to eradicating banditry and restoring lasting peace and order in affected regions.

“This successful recovery underscores our unwavering resolve to work jointly with other government agencies and local communities to combat insecurity,” said a statement from the police.
