Trans Mara East Residents Threaten Protests Over Year-Long Power Outage

TRANS MARA: Residents of Siriat and Olmelil in Trans Mara East Subcounty are threatening to stage protests over a year-long blackout caused by the theft of a transformer.

The community accuses authorities of ignoring their pleas despite repeated reports to area MP Johanna Ngeno and Kenya Power.

“We will demonstrate against vandalism because we have informed our leaders about the issue, yet our grievances have not been addressed. We are still in darkness,” complained William Rugut.

Rugut said the outage has crippled local businesses, resulting in major economic losses.

Another resident, Philemon Ng’eno, said farming activities have also been disrupted, forcing villagers to find alternative ways to care for livestock and cultivate their land.

He added that the blackout has affected health facilities and schools, including Kabuson Comprehensive School, pushing residents to seek medical services far from home.

Ng’eno urged security agencies to take firm action against the vandals to prevent similar incidents in future.
