Paris Saint-Germain’s Ousmane Dembélé and Barcelona’s Aitana Bonmatí took home the top honors at the Ballon d’Or awards in Paris on Monday.
Both players made history with their victories. Dembélé’s triumph capped off a remarkable night for PSG, which was also named Men’s Club of the Year.
The forward, who has often played a supporting role in his career, emerged as the star of PSG’s historic treble-winning season, scoring 35 goals across all competitions.
His win was a celebration of an unexpected journey to the top of the sport.
Meanwhile, Bonmatí made history by winning the Women’s Ballon d’Or for the third consecutive year. Despite Barcelona’s loss in the UEFA Women’s Champions League final and Spain’s defeat in the Women’s Euro final, her individual brilliance shone through.
She joins a very exclusive club, becoming only the third player ever to win three straight Ballon d’Or trophies, following Lionel Messi and Michel Platini.
