A peculiar scene unfolded at the home of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga as news of his death began to spread: a highly localized rainstorm covered only the family homestead.
As stunned mourners continued to arrive, the compound was showered while, outside the perimeter, the sun shone brightly.
“This shows that he was a true Luo leader, we have lost an icon,” observed Roseline Awino, interpreting the extraordinary weather event as a spiritual tribute to the leader’s stature.
Amidst the grief, political figures paid tribute. Siaya Governor James Orengo described the late Odinga as a towering, singular force.
“The sun has set on a true patriot and a nationalist, an indomitable and resilient fighter for democracy, justice, and prosperity,” Orengo said, further noting that Odinga was “a revolutionary, a visionary, and a singular force whose shadow stretches across the most consequential five decades of our history.”
The Governor called on the public to honour the legacy of the ODM leader by continuing the work he championed.
