Bondo Police Constable Charged with Defrauding Public, Released on Sh20,000 Bail

A police constable attached to the Bondo DCIO’s office has been released on a Sh20,000 cash bail after being charged with fraudulently obtaining over Sh400,000 from members of the public.

Constable Francis Sirma Kipkwemoi, who works as a driver, appeared before Bondo Resident Magistrate Christable Maiyo to face two counts of obtaining money by false pretence.

He denied both charges.

The court heard that in both instances, the constable allegedly obtained the money by falsely claiming he would refund the amounts to a buyer of a parcel of land (Sakwa/Ajigo 3120) after a deal had fallen through.

The specific charges are; on August 24, 2024, at Bondo Police Station within Siaya County, Kipkwemoi allegedly obtained Sh330,000 from Paul Apata Airo, on the second charge, on September 9, 2024, he allegedly obtained Sh100,000 from Fredrick Omondi Omolo.

Constable Kipkwemoi was granted a bond of Sh50,000 with an alternative cash bail of Sh20,000. The case is scheduled to be mentioned on December 15.
