How ex police officer killed mother and dumped body in a gunny bag

Detectives have intensified their investigation into the brutal murder of 60-year-old Millicent Wahura Mwangi, who was killed on November 11, 2025, in Mwireri village, Olkalou.

What began as a missing person report at the Olkalou Police Station quickly evolved into a homicide investigation as forensic evidence pointed toward foul play.

On November 14, 2025, the investigation took a grim turn when passers-by in Rumathi village, roughly 37 kilometers from Olkalou, discovered a female torso stuffed in a sack along the Malewa, Kipipiri road.

The victim was clad in a white blouse with blue and black stripes.

Despite a meticulous search of the area by Kipipiri police, the remaining body parts were not initially located.

The torso was moved to the JM Kariuki Memorial Funeral Home, where the family later positively identified the remains as those of their missing mother.

Following the identification, the DCI Homicide Investigations Unit joined forces with Nyandarua Central detectives.

Utilizing forensic intelligence, investigators tracked the prime suspect, Benson Maina Mwangi, the deceased’s second-born son, to a hideout in Kamulu. He was arrested on November 20, 2025.

The suspect was arraigned before the Senior Principal Magistrate’s Court in Olkalou on November 24, where detectives secured a 21-day custodial order.

He remains in custody pending a court mention scheduled for January 19, 2026.

Recovery of Crucial Evidence

On December 23, 2025, homicide detectives and forensic experts conducted a scene re-enactment.

Guided by the suspect, the team launched an underwater search in River Malewa.

The operation successfully recovered key exhibits, including: a machete believed to be the murder weapon, a bedsheet and blanket used during the commission of the crime, other personal items disposed of following the killing
