Standard Group Mourns Award-Winning Videographer Rashid Mukoya Idi

The media fraternity is mourning the sudden death of Rashid Mukoya Idi, an award-winning videographer with the Standard Group, who passed away following a short illness.

His family and employer confirmed that he died on Thursday, December 25, 2025, while undergoing treatment at a Nairobi hospital.

According to colleagues and family, Idi began feeling unwell on Wednesday, complaining of persistent headaches.

Though his wife urged him to seek medical attention, he initially opted to self-medicate.

The situation took a tragic turn later that day. Upon returning from work, his wife found him on the floor, sweating profusely and struggling to breathe.

He was rushed to the hospital and admitted directly to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where he sadly passed away.

His body has been moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Idi was a highly respected member of the Standard Group Editorial Department, known for his dedication, professionalism, and creative vision.

Since joining the organization on January 17, 2013, he spent over a decade shaping visual storytelling and editorial excellence across various platforms.

His talent earned him international acclaim; in 2016, he won the prestigious CNN MultiChoice African Journalist of the Year Award alongside journalist Asha Mwilu.

Peers across the profession have mourned him as a “good man” whose contributions to Kenyan journalism will be deeply missed.
