NAIROBI, Kenya: The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has announced a record-breaking festive season, with over 300,000 visitors touring national parks and reserves in December 2025.
In a statement released on Monday, January 5, 2026, the wildlife agency credited the “Jiachilie in Kenya Parks” campaign for the high turnout, specifically noting that Kenyan citizens and residents formed the backbone of the season’s success.
The total visitor count of over 300,000 reflects a robust appreciation for Kenya’s natural heritage: Kenyan Citizens & Residents: 231,000 (77% of total visitors), Non-Residents (International): 82,500.
“Kenyans are the true cornerstone of our tourism,” KWS stated in a statement. “As we close the Jiachilie in Kenya Parks festive season, we say asante sana to every visitor who chose our parks in December 2025.”
The surge in numbers followed several strategic initiatives by KWS designed to make the parks more accessible during the holidays: reintroduced affordable bus shuttle services to major destinations like Nairobi, Aberdare, and Lake Nakuru National Parks.
The special group offers and Boxing Day discounts aimed at families and large groups.
These numbers align with the Ministry of Tourism’s broader goal to reach five million annual visitors by 2028.
KWS has signaled that the momentum will continue into the new year, promising “more experiences, more access, and more conservation impact.”
The agency encouraged the public to continue exploring the country’s protected areas under the “Jiachilie Tena” (Relax Again) call to action.
