Police are investigating an incident in Kangondi village, Kitui County, where a police officer reportedly died by suicide in his home.
According to authorities, 40-year-old Constable Dennis Nzau Ndav, who was attached to the Kangondi Police Station, was found on Sunday, January 18, 2026.
The officer’s wife raised the alarm after she was unable to reach him following a distressing message he had sent her.
She alerted his colleagues, who proceeded to his house at the Kangondi police lines, where they discovered his body.
This tragedy is the latest in a worrying trend within the service, often linked to rising levels of trauma among officers.
Suicide remains a leading cause of death within the National Police Service (NPS), as officers are frequently exposed to high-stress environments and traumatic events.
In response to this crisis, police authorities have launched expanded counseling services.
The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) has also established a dedicated unit to address the mental health needs of its personnel.
This unit is tasked with evaluating and designing outreach programs aimed at preventing mental health struggles and substance abuse within the force.
