Narcotics and criminal weaponry seized in Western Kenya

Police across the Lake Region and Western Kenya have intensified operations following a series of successful interventions involving narcotics and illegal weaponry.

In a proactive operation based on public intelligence, officers from Obunga Police Station targeted a known criminal hotspot at the railway crossing along the Kisumu-Kakamega Road.

Two suspects were taken into custody after they were found with an arsenal of tools typically used in housebreakings and violent robberies. The items recovered included: a machete and a knife, pair of pliers, several bunches of keys, length of wire “believed to be intended for use as a garotte.”

The duo remains in custody pending processing and arraignment.

In neighboring Vihiga County, officers from Chavakali Police Station acted on a tip-off regarding a traveler carrying suspicious luggage.

Police intercepted the suspect at a booking office in Chavakali Township as they were preparing to board a vehicle.

A search of the suspect’s bag revealed: a substance suspected to be Cannabis sativa, concealed in yellow polythene packaging.

Finally in Ahero, traffic and security teams in, engaged in a car chase after a vehicle suspected of transporting narcotics defied orders to stop.

While the occupants managed to flee on foot after abandoning the car on a feeder road, police successfully recovered a significant haul of drugs from the vehicle, including: Five bags and 258 rolls of suspected Cannabis sativa.

The vehicle has been impounded at the local station, and a manhunt is currently underway to trace the escaped suspects.
