Rescue mission is ongoing at Endarasha, Kieni West, following a serious road accident involving a school vehicle that has left at least 19 people injured and others trapped.
The Kenya Red Cross confirmed the incident on Saturday morning, stating that the vehicle was traveling along Charity Road when it lost control, veered off the asphalt, and overturned into a ditch.
The impact was devastating; eyewitnesses reported that the front section of the van was completely smashed, with the windscreen shattered and internal seating dislodged by the force of the roll.
“Nineteen people with injuries have been taken to Nyeri County Referral Hospital for treatment,” the humanitarian agency said in its latest update.
However, the mission is far from over. Emergency teams remain on the scene, working feverishly to reach individuals who are reportedly still trapped inside the badly damaged wreckage.
While the exact number of students on board and the extent of all injuries remain unconfirmed, the Red Cross and local first responders have prioritized the extrication and stabilization of those at the scene.
The Charity Road stretch in Endarasha is now a hive of activity as ambulances and rescue equipment dominate the area.
Authorities are expected to provide a more detailed report once the rescue phase is concluded and the vehicle is cleared from the ditch.
