Lurambi MP Titus Khamala has officially defected from ODM to the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), marking a significant shift in Kakamega politics.
The second-term lawmaker made the move at his Shibuli home on Sunday night.
Khamala was received by high-ranking leaders, including Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula and several Western MPs Explaining his decision, Khamala admitted that his 2022 move to ODM was a gamble on an Azimio victory that failed to materialize.
“I don’t want to miss again,” he stated, vowing to lead the charge for President William Ruto’s 2027 re-election to ensure his constituents benefit from government development.
Deputy Governor Ayub Savula praised the move, describing Khamala as a “giraffe” who can see the political future.
Savula further claimed that at least 10 other MPs from the region are currently preparing to defect to UDA.
The defection comes as ODM remains split into two rival factions; one led by Party Leader Oburu Oginga (Linda Ground), which supports cooperation with Ruto, and another led by Secretary General Edwin Sifuna (Linda Mwananchi), which remains in the opposition.
With Khamala’s exit, the Kenya Kwanza team signaled that the fight for Western’s 2.6 million votes is now their top priority.
