An unknown decomposed body has been discovered lying along the banks of River Nzoia at Lela Village in Siranga Sub-location, Ukwala Ward, Ugenya Sub-county, sparking concern among local residents.
According to village elder Maurice Juma, who spoke to Kondele News, the body was discovered at around 11am by residents who had gone to the river to bathe.
Juma said the condition of the body made it difficult to immediately identify the deceased, noting that it was lying face down and had decomposed significantly, making it impossible to tell whether it was a male or female.
He added that local authorities, including officers from Ukwala Police Station, were promptly notified following the discovery.
However, by the time of reporting, the body had not yet been collected from the scene.
The village elder has appealed to families with missing relatives, particularly those suspected to have drowned in River Nzoia, to visit the site and help in identifying the body.
Police are expected to retrieve the remains and launch investigations to establish the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding the death.
