Hail Omanyala after 9.94seconds victory at Xiamen Diamond League, China

Kenya’s sprint sensation Ferdinand Omanyala is back on top of the world.

Delivering a commanding performance on the global stage, Omanyala stormed to victory in the men’s 100m at the 2026 Xiamen Diamond League in China, clocking a blistering season’s best time of 9.94 seconds.

The race was a masterclass in execution and a sweet moment of redemption for Africa’s fastest man.

Having finished second at last weekend’s Shanghai/Keqiao meet, Omanyala produced a trademark powerful late surge to exact revenge on South Africa’s Gift Leotlela.

Leotlela, who had edged out the Kenyan in their previous meeting with a 9.97-second run, had to settle for second place this time around, crossing the line in 10.00 seconds flat.

The fierce, short-lived rivalry between the two African speedsters certainly lived up to the hype, but it was Omanyala who claimed the ultimate bragging rights in Xiamen.

Omanyala didn’t just beat his immediate rival; he outclassed an incredibly elite, star-studded field: Trayvon Bromell (USA), the two-time world medalist claimed the final podium spot, finishing third in 10.03 seconds.

The four-time global medalist, Kenny Bednarek (USA), who placed second in the previous Diamond League leg, finished just outside the podium in fourth and Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo, in a surprise turn of events, the reigning Olympic 200m champion endured a difficult outing, crossing the line in eighth place.

Celebration at home

Omanyala’s thrilling performance immediately caught the attention of leadership back home. Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi led the nation in celebrating the track star, praising his consistency on the world stage.

“What a sprint by Ferdinand Omanyala in China! A brilliant 9.94s performance to win the men’s 100m at the Xiamen Diamond League, once again flying the Kenyan flag high on the global stage. Congratulations, Omanyala!”, the Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi wrote on his handle.
