National Super League leaders Migori Youth FC have been dealt a significant setback after the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Appeals Committee deducted three points from the club for fielding an ineligible player during a league match against Kabati Youth FC.
The decision came after Kabati Youth FC successfully appealed an earlier ruling by the FKF Leagues and Competitions Committee concerning the eligibility of player Collins Ouma Otieno (FKF 136438).
The match in question was played on January 11, 2026. Migori Youth had originally earned a point from the fixture.
However, following a thorough review, the Appeals Committee determined that Otieno was improperly registered and therefore ineligible to participate.
According to the committee, the player’s registration was processed as a new signing rather than a transfer and was completed outside the official registration window.
Records showed that Otieno was registered on January 5 and approved on January 8—several days before the transfer window officially opened on January 12.
In its ruling, the Appeals Committee awarded Kabati Youth FC a 3-0 victory, granting them three points and overturning the initial match result.
The decision is set to have major implications for the National Super League, particularly in the race for promotion to the FKF Premier League and the battle against relegation, as the season approaches its climax.
In a statement, Migori Youth FC acknowledged the ruling but expressed strong dissatisfaction, noting that the club would pursue further redress through the appropriate legal and football governance channels.
“While we respectfully disagree with the decision, we remain committed to the rule of law and the established dispute resolution mechanisms within football governance,” the club stated.
Migori Youth also reassured fans, partners, and stakeholders that the matter is far from over, expressing confidence that justice would ultimately prevail.
Despite the setback, the club maintains its focus on securing promotion to the FKF Premier League as the title race enters a decisive phase.
