Shock as body of woman 63, retrieved from a well in Migori

SUNA WEST: Police in Migori County have launched a formal investigation following the tragic discovery of a 63 year old woman found dead inside a well at her home in Oruba Village, Suna West Sub-County.

The deceased, identified as Grace Awino, was discovered lifeless in the family well at around 4:00 a.m. by grieving relatives.

According to Suna Oruba Location Chief Charles Ouma, the area village elder alerted him to the tragedy at approximately 6am Chief Ouma subsequently notified law enforcement, prompting a swift response from police officers and local administration officials who rushed to the homestead.

As the morning unfolded, a heavy sense of shock hung over the compound.

A large crowd comprising devastated relatives, neighbors, and local residents gathered to witness the recovery efforts.

Police officers, alongside local volunteers, worked together to retrieve Awino’s body from the depths of the well.

Authorities temporarily cordoned off and secured the water source, allowing forensic investigators to meticulously document the scene and gather any physical evidence that could shed light on the final moments leading up to the incident.

Amid the growing crowd, local administrators engaged with the public, appealing for calm and asking residents to give investigators the necessary space to conduct their work without interference.

After recovery operation, law enforcement officials transferred the body to the Migori County Referral Hospital mortuary.

An upcoming post-mortem examination is expected to yield critical medical data to establish the exact cause of death.

Migori police are keeping all options open as they investigate how Awino ended up in the well, noting that the inquiry will determine whether the fall was accidental or if foul play was involved.

Authorities have strictly urged anyone with relevant information to step forward and cooperate fully with investigators.
