Kisii National Polytechnic today hosted a strategic meeting between the State Department for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) to map out youth-skilling initiatives across the country.
Dr Esther Muoria, the Principal Secretary (PS) for the State Department of TVET, stated that the collaboration aims to actively recruit young people into training institutions to acquire essential, practical skills such as plumbing, carpentry, and other technical trades.
“President Ruto has directed that at least two million young people should be enrolled in training institutions. We are collaborating across sectors to ensure this target is achieved,” Dr Muoria said.
To ensure no one is left behind, local administrators, including county commissioners, chiefs, and assistant chiefs, will help identify youth who are currently not in education, employment, or training (NEET).
Dr Muoria emphasized that every young person possesses native talents that TVET institutions can nurture into viable careers.
Furthermore, the PS highlighted that industry partners and recruiters are being integrated into the program early to provide career guidance and direct employment pipelines for graduates.
“The more young people we skill, the stronger our country’s industries will become,” she concluded.
