Pain as another Kenyan dies in Russian battlefield

A family in Isinya, Kajiado County is urgently appealing to the Kenyan government for help to repatriate the body of their kin, who died on the battlefield in Russia after being lured into a fake job syndicate.

The family of 29-year-old Enock Mboi Nyarang’o has reported the matter to local authorities and the Russian Embassy in Nairobi, but they are yet to receive a response.

Unable to afford the steep repatriation costs, they are stuck searching for answers on how their kin ended up on a foreign frontline, holding onto the hope that his remains will be returned home for burial.

The deceased, who is a qualified P1 teacher left Kenya in November 2025 after securing what he believed was a lucrative security job in Qatar.

To facilitate the travel, his family had taken out a Sh210,000 loan, hoping the opportunity would transform the life of the father of a five-year-old child.

According to his wife Christine Mboi , he later discovered he had been flown to Russia instead.

Following his arrival, communication remained sporadic until April this year, when the family last spoke to him.

Nyarang’o had not managed to send a single coin back home by the time of his tragic demise.

The devastating news arrived on May 26 via a WhatsApp message written in Russian, informing them of his death on the battlefield.

The line has since gone mute.

The Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs has previously reported that several Kenyans have died or gone missing after being recruited into the Russian military through highly deceptive overseas job offers.
