Business nuggets: why capital is not everything to run a successful business

BY CAROLYN YIAPO: For years, we’ve been told the same myth: to start a business, capital is everything.

We are led to believe that cash alone guarantees quick success.

As a result, our main focus shifts to chasing profits rather than understanding how to actually manage an enterprise, and that is exactly why so many businesses fail within a short period.

When a business begins to fall, where does the flaw usually lie? The truth is, we are often the saboteurs of our own success. We completely forget the most critical foundation: mental health and self-awareness.

Imagine you are selling two chickens—one white and one black. When a buyer approaches, the white one is almost always chosen first, simply because its bright appearance catches the eye.

Running a business is no different than leadership; you cannot present your best self to the market, or serve your customers effectively, if your internal world is in chaos.

Before you think about making profits, think about your mental peace. Your mind is the engine running your business. In entrepreneurship, true health is wealth.
