Rumours of disappearing male genitals in Mombasa, police warn against spreading false news

By MOURINE SCOVIAN: The Likoni sub-county police department has launched a aggressive crackdown on individuals spreading bizarre, unverified claims regarding the sudden disappearance of male genitals.

Likoni Sub-County Police Commander Joseph Kyalo Mutungi issued a stern warning to the public following a series of alarming incidents fueled by mass hysteria, where people falsely claimed their private parts vanished after receiving mysterious phone calls or being touched by strangers.

Commander Mutungi strongly cautioned against sharing and circulating these dangerous fabrications online or offline, confirming that law enforcement will take immediate action against anyone inciting the public.

Attack on a man suspected to have stolen genitals

The real-world danger of these rumors was put on display at the Likoni Ferry area, where an innocent man named Juma Saidi Mwachipanga was violently beset by an angry mob.

The crowd turned on Mwachipanga after another resident, Ali Hamisi Bashir, loudly accused him of mystically stealing his organs.

Fortunately, police officers managed to intervene and rescue Mwachipanga from the crowd before he sustained life-threatening injuries.

Following the chaos, authorities arrested Bashir, who is currently being held at the Likoni police station pending his formal processing and court arraignment, where he is set to face serious charges of assault and incitement.

The panic has rapidly evolved into a regional issue, prompting coordinated police interventions across the coastal belt.

In an effort to contain the spreading hysteria and prevent further acts of vigilante justice, authorities have arrested twelve other individuals in Diani in Kwale and Mtopanga in Mombasa for their roles in propagating the viral rumor.

Police continue to urge the public to remain calm, disregard the online misinformation, and refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
