Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has emerged as the top-performing Member of Parliament in Kenya, according to the latest CountyTrak Performance Index 2026 released by Infotrak Research and Consulting.
The report, unveiled at the Villa Rosa Kempinski in Nairobi, provides a comprehensive, citizen-based assessment of elected leaders, tracking public perception regarding leadership, visibility, responsiveness, and grassroots service delivery.
Babu Owino secured the nation’s highest approval rating at 80percent, placing him at the apex of the nationwide assessment.
He was closely followed by Kabuchai MP Joseph Kalasinga at 78percent, while Kiharu’s Ndindi Nyoro and Taveta’s John Bwire tied for third place with 76percent ratings.
A highly competitive middle tier saw six lawmakers tie with an impressive 73percent approval rating they include: Josephine Lesuuda (Samburu West), Didmus Barasa (Kimilili), Reuben Kiborek (Mogotio), Gideon Kimaiyo Kipkoech (Keiyo South), Nelson Koech (Belgut), and Kaguchia John Gichohi (Mukurweini).
The 2026 index also highlighted strong performances from Migori County, with three legislators cementing their spots among the top 100 best-performing MPs.
Mark Nyamita (Uriri) and Walter Owino (Awendo) both posted approval ratings of 71percent, while Peter Masara from Suna West recorded a 70percent score.
Other notable performers were Marianne Kitany (Aldai), Peter Salasya (Mumias East), Jackson Lekumontare (Samburu East), Danson Mwashako (Wundanyi), Erastus Kivasu Nzioka (Mbooni), and Omar Mwinyi (Changamwe), who also achieved a 70percent approval rating.
Methodology
The polling reflects a shift in public sentiment, where citizen evaluation is increasingly tied to tangible development records and accountability.
Conducted between January and May 2026, the survey covered all 47 counties, 290 constituencies, and 1,450 wards, drawing on insights from a sample of 87,286 respondents.
To ensure data integrity, the poll was rolled out in two phases in which phase one (January–March): Surveyed 36,200 respondents, while phase two surveyed 51,086 respondents to ensure each constituency had a representative sample of at least 300 participants.
Data was collected through Computer-Assisted Telephone Interviews (CATI), processed using SPSS software, and weighted against national census demographics for age and gender to ensure accuracy.
