Pain after a teenager died after stepping on an explosive in Tiaty

A 15-year-old boy lost his life on Friday morning after accidentally stepping on an abandoned explosive device in Tiaty West sub county.

The tragedy occurred in the remote Toplen area of Silale Location while the teenager was walking through the landscape.

His foot struck a hidden, unexploded ordnance, suspected to be a remnant from past tactical operations, triggering a massive blast that inflicted fatal injuries to his head and hands.

He died instantly at the scene.

According to local authorities, the area where the explosion occurred has historically served as an active battleground between state security forces and heavily armed bandits.

The deployment of heavy weaponry during these security operations often leaves behind lethal, unexploded ammunition that poses a silent threat to rural communities.

Bomb disposal experts and local investigators have swept the scene to establish the exact origin and nature of the device, while the teenager’s body was recovered and moved to a regional mortuary.
