NAIROBI: A suspected armed robber captured on CCTV during a viral restaurant attack in Westlands has been shot dead following a fierce gunfight with police in Joska, Machakos County.
Joint elite units from DCI Headquarters and DCI Matungulu closed in on a target house in Joska Town.
The suspect, who was hiding at his girlfriend’s residence, ignored orders to surrender and opened fire on officers through a kitchen window. He was fatally shot after detectives returned fire.
Investigators seized a Beretta pistol (loaded with four rounds of 9mm ammunition), extra live bullets, spent cartridges, and three mobile phones.
CCTV footage recently caught the suspect and his accomplices storming Chaiiwali Restaurant on General Mathenge Road, Westlands, where they robbed diners at gunpoint before escaping on motorcycles.

Investigators state the suspect was part of an active syndicate carrying out violent, coordinated robberies across Nairobi, Kiambu, and Machakos counties.
The weapon has been handed over to the National Police Service Forensic Laboratory (NPSFL) for testing.
Meanwhile, police are actively pursuing the remaining accomplices who fled the scene.
