Go and serve the people, UDA’s Samuel Muchina concedes defeat in Ol-Kalou

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Samuel Muchina Nyagah has officially conceded defeat in the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, congratulating his opponent, Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).

Shortly after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) finalized the tally, Muchina extended his well-wishes to Waweru.

In his message, Muchina wrote: “Congratulations, Sammy Kamau Waweru. Go and serve the people of Ol Kalou Constituency.”

This concession brings a peaceful and orderly conclusion to a highly contentious, three-month campaign that deeply divided the constituency.

The outcome is setback for the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition, which had heavily invested in the race.

In a form of expressing appreciation of support from President William Ruto, the state machinery, including several Cabinet Secretaries, had actively traversed the region to campaign on Muchina’s behalf.

However, heavily backed by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, DCP’s Waweru successfully ran on a platform focused on addressing the high cost of living.

His victory shifts the regional political dynamics in the Mt. Kenya region as political players begin aligning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
