DCI homicide detectives have opened an inquiry into the mysterious death of 22-year-old Margaret Wambui following a 22nd-floor fall in Nairobi’s Upper Hill neighborhood.

The victim, identified as Margaret Wambui, left her family home in Kasarani at around 7pm on Saturday to head to her internship workplace. However, investigators found no evidence that she ever reached the hotel.

Security records instead place her entering Altura Apartments at approximately 10:00 PM, where she briefly checked in at the reception before heading up to the 22nd-floor rooftop to take photographs.

The tragedy came to light around 1:30 AM on Sunday when a security guard alerted the building’s management after discovering Wambui’s body on an adjacent lot.

Police officers dispatched to the scene found her lying on the ground with severe multiple fractures consistent with a high-altitude fall.

On the rooftop, officers recovered a bag containing her personal belongings, including a purse, a Visa card, her work uniform, and an IEBC voter registration card bearing her name.

While a security guard stationed on the rooftop reported seeing Wambui taking photos earlier in the evening, he stated he was in the washroom when the fall occurred and did not witness the incident.

Investigators are actively looking into whether the fall was accidental, while Wambui’s grieving family is calling for a thorough investigation, insisting she showed no signs of distress or mental health struggles prior to leaving home.
