Police seize illicit ethanol and stolen electronic in different operations

Security forces in Busia and Garissa counties delivered a double blow to illegal trade on Monday, July 20, 2026, seizing hundreds of liters of contraband ethanol and dismantling a suspect fence operation for stolen electronics.

In Busia County, a multi-agency security team executed a targeted raid on a homestead in the Burumba area following intelligence reports.

The operation yielded 600 liters of illicit ethanol and led to the immediate arrest of one suspect.

The seized contraband has been secured as physical evidence, while the suspect remains in police custody, assisting investigators with ongoing inquiries ahead of a formal court appearance.

Meanwhile, hundreds of kilometers away in Garissa County, a separate police operation targeted the black market for stolen consumer tech.

Acting on actionable intelligence linking a business along Mums Street in Madogo Township to the handling of stolen property, officers raided the establishment and recovered 105 mobile phones, two laptops, and a wide array of mobile phone accessories.

Two suspects were taken into custody during the Madogo Township raid.

As both individuals await arraignment, investigators are actively working to trace original owners and cross-reference theft reports to reunite victims with their recovered devices.
