Mystery in Githurai 45: man found dead in bar after drink was spiked with unidentified crystal powder

Detectives in Kiambu County have launched a homicide investigation after a man was found dead inside a local bar in Githurai 45, in what police suspect is a deadly case of “spiking”.

According to police reports, the victim entered the establishment around 5am on Wednesday accompanied by an unidentified woman.

The pair ordered two bottles of beer and drank together for a period before the woman quietly slipped away, leaving the man alone at the table.

Moments later during the morning hours, the woman quietly departed, leaving her companion behind at the table.

At 11am one of the bar attendants noticed the customer leaning to one side in his chair, completely unresponsive six hours after arriving.

The bar manager summoned a medical doctor to examine the patron, moments later the doctor pronounced the man dead on the spot, prompting an immediate call to law enforcement.

Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers from Juja processed the scene, noting that the deceased bore no visible physical injuries.

However, detectives uncovered what appears to be the primary cause of death at the scene, a glass containing leftover beer with mysterious crystal-like powder residues settled at the bottom.

Investigators believe the victim was targeted by a drugging syndicate that spiked his drink to render him helpless before robbing him.

The glass and beer bottle were bagged as exhibits for forensic toxicological testing.

The unidentified victim’s body was transferred to the Kenyatta University Referral Hospital Mortuary for identification and a post-mortem examination as police pursue leads to trace the woman and her accomplices.
